I guess since this is a break from the usual format, I should explain. But it fits! (sort of).
Mustache Day is the creation of my friend Sarah. I have one of those dry-erase, four month at a time calendars on my wall, and had, at the beginning of May, written in all of the dates, but was too depressed to mark my due dates for school assignments (speaking of which, guess what I should be doing right now?). Sarah was over one day, and noted the blank calendar. After I explained the depression issue, it was decided that we should create some days. June fifth is “Guacamole Day”. July ninth is “Overcast—Music Day”. August fifth is “It’s Probably Going to be Sunny Day!”.
And June twenty-third? Mustache Day! In honour of which I have here posted myself with a mustache (it’s eyeliner… I don’t usually look quite that creepy).
So how does this fit into this blog? Well, Mustache Day is rather the result of talking to strangers. I met Sarah through my friend Mike (who, by the way, once introduced us and then walked out of the room, telling us to “bond”… I guess we did). I met Mike in class (Comparative Politics of Development, to be exact). After his computer had to be turned off due to noise issues, we played tic-tac-toe, then continued to avoid paying attention by passing notes about past coop student experiences, and my atrocious hand writing.
Anywho, the point is that by talking to a stranger, I gained a friend. And then a few more (like Sarah).
Result? Mustache Day. And knowing some pretty cool people.
Moral: TALK TO STRANGERS. It’s worth it.
Side note: I was going to post something about Mustache Day on my Facebook as a dorky inside joke, but I have a number of friends who post a variety of serious things regarding the situation in Iran, and I thought I would look awfully shallow by comparison. Thus, I have inflicted Mustache Day here upon the two people who read this (I forgot to count my friend Lisa last time when I said “1” follower… my apologies).
